ArcGIS Desktop 101 - eCourse
Course Overview:
This course teaches the fundamental functions and concepts needed to successfully use ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop software including ArcView, ArcEditor and ArcInfo. This course will introduce students to GIS data formats, work-ing with data tables, creating maps, performing analysis and more.
Target Audience:
This course is designed for GIS beginners with little to no experience using ArcGIS software that wish to learn more about what can be done within ArcGIS Desktop Software.
Prerequisites and recommendations:
Students taking this course should have a general understanding of computers and how to work in a Microsoft Win-dows environment. No GIS experience is required.

Course Goals:
After successfully completing this course you will have acquired a good understanding of ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop’s basic functionality. These new skills include:
- Understanding basic GIS concepts and terms
- Understand the purpose of ArcCatalog and ArcMap applications
- Understand ESRI data formats such as the Geodatabase and Shapefiles
- Know how to control basic thematic symbols
- Know how to label features in a map
- Perform simple queries and analysis
- Perform simple edits
- Geocode address data
- Work with tables in ArcGIS Create and plot Maps
