Using Spatial Analyst for ArcGIS
Course Developed by Juniper GIS
Course Overview:
This 2 day course introduces participants to the Esri Spatial Analyst extension for ArcGIS Desktop. Spatial Analyst allows users to perform comprehensive analysis using raster data. Typical uses of Spatial Analyst include creating digital elevation models (DEM), performing viewshed analysis, population density mapping, storm water runoff modeling, and more.
Student learn the basics of using the Spatial Analyst extension by working through several projects. The first pro-ject illustrates basic raster functionality by locating the best site for a solar installation. The second project demon-strates more advanced analysis and validation by determining fire hazard zones. A third project explores the process of analyzing water tables and the impact of irrigation, providing an opportunity to look at the Hydrology sample provided for ArcGIS. The final projects combine the skills learned in earlier projects to locate sites for elephant conservation zones in Kenya and to do cost path analysis to find the shortest path between an elephant herd and a reserve area.
Target Audience:
This course if for those wishing to learn more about the Spatial Analyst extension and how it can be used to perform powerful spatial analysis using a combination of raster and vector data.
Prerequisites and recommendations:
Students taking this class should have also completed the ArcGIS Desktop 1, Desktop 2 and Desktop 3 courses or have equivalent real world experience.
